Is political correctness political censorship?

Why do people insist on being politically correct?

Do you think this is a way people are trying to censor other people?

I know the law doesn’t enforce it but I think its a way away from critical debates and strong skeptisicism of something. Its like oking something and keeping from the spotlight. My view its a way to censor people and another way to avoid critism.

I agree It does sound like a broad generalization but what im refering to is not government censorship but people trying to create ngo form of censorship

Answer #2

There is a big difference between governmental censorship and socially acceptable speech. You are painting with a pretty broad stroke when you say political correctness. Calling someone the N-word is not censored by the government, but it certainly is frowned upon by society. Having to say sanitarian engineer instead of garabage man so as not to insult them is just stupid. There are degrees to everything.

Answer #3

As with all things political…the word moderation does not exist. All or nuthin’ is the name of the game. So now…in Seattle, you can’t dress up as a witch for Halloween, or you might “offend” someone…in France it’s not polite to say “farm” because there are pigs on farms, and there maybe a Muslum in the crowd…

It’s verbal censorship…eventually we’ll all get tongue-tied trying to stay “correct”…well not all, once it hit ridiculous, I said to he** with it…:)

That really isn’t censorship. It is just the shifting mores of society.

Answer #5

I don’t know, I don’t like it nor do I support it
