is it politically correct to:

call african americans blacks, and native americans indians? or is it offencive to you…? I’m just never sure.

Answer #1

Amen blerggher! I like most Americans am a mutt, with lots of different blood in me.

I totally agree. We are Americans first, not Native American, African American, or Italian Americans. I happen to be an American with Indian, Belgian, Scottish and a dither of other backgrounds. So if you want to be “politically correct” you may call me an “American- with -a -diverse -heritage”. Or we can stop with the crap and just be Americans.

Answer #2

In the 60’s it was politically incorrect NOT to refer to African Americans as “Black”…so you got me…I’m kinda like blerggher, why bother to call a “color” when American would suffice…

I think the same with Native Americans…why not just American…

I really don’t see the need to define by color, unless you were being questioned by the cops …I mean, like a description or something…white, black, native, oriental, whatever…

Indians is the wrong name, the original settlers called them Indians because they thought they were in India. Native American is probably a more accurate term. But I dont like that word

“Native/African” Americans is a very very stupid term in my opinion. Why do people feel the need to point out their race when referring to them? If they are born in America they should just be called an American. What makes them different from white people, who are always just called “Americans” Why do people always have to bring race into everything in this country?

Answer #4

Most Native Americans I know actually prefer to be known by their tribe: Choctaw, Navajo, Cherokee, etc.
