Fish don’t get pregnant. They lay eggs.

My betta girl fish looks at and I know its pregnet it has been in a tank with a boy betta for 5 months and she has a belly and there is a bubble nest but know egg? what can I do so she can have the babies or to have babies?

Well, it depends on the male. If the male doesn’t show any interest in the female, the chances are he’s probably too old to breed. The best breeders are the younger males.

Some ways that you can tell if the male is interested is the bubble nest. On the top of the tank, there should be a little nest resembling foam. This is what the males create to support the eggs. And of course if he flares his gills/ fins out for her, this means that he’s showing off.

One thing to look for on the female to see if she’s interested is vertical stripes on her body. This is her way of telling the male that she’s ready to mate.

I suggest making a breeding tank for them, because the chances are if they do mate, the male will try to kill the female. It’s normal for him to attack the female… So keep them in a larger tank with plenty of plants so the girl can hide… And try to keep the bottom of the tank free of decorations (rocks, sand, etc), so if they do mate, the male can easily find the eggs.

As for “making” them breed, it’s kinda hard to do that if they’re not in the mood. Just like all animals, beta fish prefer certain seasons. One of the best times to get them in the mood is when it’s raining. When it’s raining, my beta males go crazy building their bubble nests! lol! Another thing that “spices” up their mood is adding almond leaves to their water. I suggest looking for these leaves on eBay or Aquabid.com. When you get the leaves, boil them in water and pour it into the tank. Just a warning…It kind of looks like a tea. It’s normal for the water to look a little yellowish. This is what their natural environment looks like.

Answer #4

He probably doesn’t like her so she’s afraid of him. He could try to kill her if she starts to bother him. How sure are you they’re not both males?

Answer #5

Male and Female Bettas are easy to tell apart. Males are more colorful(in general), and have much larger fins than females. Not to mention they’re just much larger.

Bettas lay eggs in bubble nests made from the male’s saliva, which are then guarded by the male from the mother and other predators. Either she has a growth, or the male has been attacking her and something’s poking out.

Answer #6

Well, you learn something new every day. Tried breeding Betas myself, though they just floated there.

And yes, there are livebearing fish, just like there are livebearing reptiles and egg-laying mammals.
