How do female bettas get eggs?

I’ve been wondering this for a while because I went to a fish store and got this female betta and she already had eggs in her! I know that a male has to fertilize the eggs but I don’t know how she got the eggs in the first place! I wondered if there was a breeding season for female bettas like the breeding season for goldfish.

The same way any other female of a species gets eggs … they grow. Women grow eggs in their ovaries, but sperm is needed to fertilize it. Chicken grow eggs, but unless a rooster fertilizes the egg, it won’t grow into a chick (these are the eggs we eat) … so, a betta grows eggs and lays them but without the male they won’t be fertilized.
