Is it true that caffeine boosts your metabolism?

If so,then how? And isn’t drinking coffee bad for you? I know that has a lot of caffeine in it though.

Answer #1

Coffee doesn’t ‘boost the metabolism’.

The caffeine in coffee (also found in Pepsi/Coke, tea and far too many ‘energy drinks’) is a stimulant. People vary in their reactions, but generally caffeine leads to a temporary increase in alertness, as well as suppressing the appetite for a short time. It’s become an ‘accepted stimulant’ in most places - but that doesn’t mean it’s healthy. (You might note that several religious groups, including LDS and Seventh Day Adventists, shun coffee and tea as well as narcotics and alcohol.)

In fact, recent studies have shown that caffeine as such doesn’t cause dehydration (as has long been believed) - only that water is a healthier way of supplying your body with liquids.

Answer #2

I’m not really sure… but I know a lot of health experts and they all tell me to stay away from caffeine. But I do know that caffeine curbs the appetite. People eat less when consuming caffeine so they think that it boosts the metabolism. Caffeine causes dehydration which will slow the metabolism. People these days don’t have proper hydration… so they have slow metabolisms. Caffeine weakens bones. If you are thinking of boosting your metabolism I would say… drink lots of water first off and green tea.

Answer #3

I am not sure about it boosing your metabolism, but I do know that a bit of it is good for your heart. Of course it is not good to drink too much because of the caffeine, but a bit of it (with lots of water, since it does dehydrate you) is suppose to be good for your heart. It’s the same with red wine. A glass a day is suppose to be good for you since it lowers choloestrol. Once again, only in moderation.
