Is it Parvo? Or could it be something else?

Ok I am a dog lover so me and my husband have or had a lot of dog’s. Three of them was fine one day and the next they were not eating drinking they were depressed and lazy but non of the had foal stools or vomiting. they died with in hour so we didn’t get to take them to a vet. we thought it was parvo only because my next door friend Kathy said they could of got it from her cats. But the Guy who lives down the hill from us raises Pitt Bulls and we had gotten two from him but they stay in side for now came up and said that it wasn’t because if it was you would know because it would be the worst smell you ever smelled and that they could of eat a rat with poison or antifreeze or could of been caused by worms. the reason we don’t know is because we had one other dog outside and the other have been at least once out there before too and non of them have gotten sick at all. my dogs us to stay over all the time at my father in laws every morning around his dogs and non of them are sick. we just need to know because the others will need to go out soon but I don’t want it to take the chance if it was.

Did your dogs have their parvo shots? If they did, it’s almost a guarantee that it’s something else. Usually they show symptoms for at least a couple of days before they succumb to parvo. And yes, they will have a FOUL smelling stool (most likely diarrhea). Take them to the vet to make sure… my puppy got parvo a few months ago, and luckily they caught it in time to save him (although it was extremely pricey for my taste) :) I’m sorry for your loss.

parvo cannot be transmitted from cat to dog…it is rare in cats but does happen. How old were your dogs and were they vaccinated? even vaccinated, there is a chance of getting it if directly exposed. The parvo virus can live up to 6 months if at room temp. If you can, I would have yoyur dogs brought in and checked for the cause of their death. I know it is expensive, but knowing would be great too. I’m sorry for the loss of your pets

Puglover is right…Cats do not give Parvo to dogs. This sounds like they got into something toxic…but it’s hard to say what it might have been, since the only symptoms were depression and not eating for one day. Anti-freeze might, however kill a young pup so quick that the sympotoms might be almost invisible.

One thing for sure…Parvo DOES stink…it is not a silent killer…it has many symptoms.
