Answer #7

Usually, when someone pleads not guilty they’re hoping the prosecuting attorney will offer a plea bargain. Where if they just plead guilty, they take whatever punishment is given.

Answer #8

It all depends on the case. He may be pleading not guilty to a higher charge in hopes of getting it reduced in a plea bargain. Are you talking about the Long Island drug store massacre that the suspect plead not guilty to yesterday? Because in that situation, it was only an arraignment hearing. No lawyer is going to allow his client to plead guilty at an arraignment. In fact, in most extreme cases like this one, a judge won’t accept a guilty plea at an arraignment. They want to make sure the suspect has proper representation so on any appeal they have nothing to point to to say they were not properly represented. This guy will wind up pleading guilty eventually. The evidence is too strong.
