why dogs are lame in under developed countries

dunno? my family is muslim, we have several dogs, (my mother spoils the lot of them) possibly a cultural thing?

well its true that muslims considers dogs as uncleaned but according to islam you should not harm animals…

Hm, well: Pakistan is Muslim, and dogs are “unclean” as are pigs, so you wouldn’t have dogs there…just like in Maldives, where they have no dogs due to religious reasons as well. Given the Muslim population in parts of India, that should explain at least some of the issue in that country, as well.

There are dogs in Pakistan as there are anywhere… A couple friends of mine were there in the military and actually “adopted” a couple strays while there…

In many poor countries, dogs, cats and other animals that don’t work for people are seen as irritations and as competition for scarce food. People don’t necessarily go out of their way to harm them, but they frequently get hit by traffic, and, in countries where basic medical care is scarce, animals rarely get medical help - the people often don’t either.
