Immigration woes

My husband is in another country. We’re trying to get him to immigrate to be with me. We spent only one month of our married lives together before I had to come home. Now we’re not sure just how long the immigration process will take or if he will even be accepted. Im miserable and terrified about the length of time it may be before I can see him again. Any advice?

Do all the paper work and then start saving money to visit each other. It’s really much easier when you know you’ll see each other in a few months then not have a date at all. It helps to work towards a goal. Immigration takes time and you may be separated for over a year but don’t let this get you down. Think of the ultimate goal which is to be together and know that it will happen in time. He should try to prepare himself for the upcoming move while still working and finding activities to keep him busy back home. You’ll both have to learn to take this one day at a time. There is also the possibility of trying to find work in his country for few months that way you can be closer. Of course it depends where he lives and what you are capable of doing. Lots of people are on the same boat as you so don’t feel too lonely…it’s just a bit of patience and courage!!!

I work with someone from Equador. He is Military. His wife still lives in Equador and they have been married almost a year now. Basically it all depends on how high immigration ranks you on their list. He has been trying since before they got married to have her come over here. It may be easier to try and get him on a work visa.

Sorry I cant be much more help.

Answer #5

Are you trying to go there? Or is he trying to come here?

My ex-husband was from Italy, and I know the immigration process is usually expected to take about 2 years. However, he can stay in Canada for (I’m almost positive) 6 months at a time on a family class visa, before having to return to his own country for a couple of weeks.

I’m not sure how it works from his country, though.
