is it illegal to keep a stop sign?

Why do you want to keep a stop sign

haha I remember when i was like 9 or something before I moved I went into my basement and I found a huge stopsign, when I asked my dad where it came from he said he stole it as a teenager and kept it just for the heck of it haha.

The stop signs are all numbered, they know where it was set up at. If you steal one and there is an accident there because of the missing stop sign you can get into trouble. (If they find it on you) Also if a person dies in the wreck you can be charged with mur.der.

It’s illegal if you’ve stolen one off a corner….there are old stop signs that aren’t in use anymore, but if someone gives you one, you should turn it in to the police in case it was stolen.

im pretty sure its illegal to keep any sign, even if you didnt steal it. the police would take them off you if they knew you had them. i collect signs though, i got them at op-shops that wernt really supposed to sell them. i dont have a stop sign though

The general rules on property are that if it wasn’t yours, you should not keep it. If you took it or someone else did, then you’re in possession of stolen property. That would be illegal.

The chances of you catching any flak are slim. But it is illegal. If you find it and are caught in possesion you will get fine. But I’ve had a couple of signs over the years and never had any trouble. Just don’t walk down the street with it. Course it’s not like the police stop for those signs anyway.

Yes…they belong to the city or the county….in other words, you are the keeper of stolen property.

Yes my brotehr stole a sign from the game wwardn and the reason for it is because it is property of teh state in wich you live in.
