Identical twins

What makes an egg split into identical twins?

Answer #1

Im not quite sure if this is right. But I think its when 2 sperm cells get to 1 egg cell then it splits into 2 cells.

I might be wrong though

Answer #2

Simply a Rose to brighten your day,         And maybe lessen the cares in your way;         And also, too, to help you to know,         That in knowing you, many others grow!

Basically there are two different types of twins; identical or fraternal.

Monozygotic twins develop when a single egg is fertilized by a single sperm and at some stage in the first two weeks the developing embryo splits in two, resulting in two genetically identical babies developing.

Dizygotic twins are two separate eggs fertilized by two different sperm and are fraternal twins.
