How can I move in with my Mom?

I’m 15 going to turn 16 in Aug. and I no longer want to live with my dad. I want to move to my Mom’s but my Dad tells me I can’t and my mom doesn’t have the money right now to take my dad to court! Is there anything that my mom could do so I could go live with her??

Answer #1

I know that I can’t be your complete adivce here, but maybe getting a way down to a court house, and telling them that you would rather live with your mom. At the age of 14 a child can say where they would rather live (in most states). Since your parents have already had a custody suit, then it is you that needs to stand up.

Is your mom single and employed (working?) If her income is low she can go to legal aid for assistance to get a lawyer and apply for child support for you up to the age of 21 as long as you are attending school!!!

If she is on welfare she will get more money from them and she will have to inform them.

Find out about the child support first though this should be first thing if you live with your mom you dont want her paying child support to your dad if you are not living with him right!!!!!

Ask your mom to get her court order or agreement out and go to legal aid first.

Sit down and talk to her money matters first before you move back with your mom.

You could also go to school and work part-time to help her out.

Good Luck

Dear bluechic9, If your fathers girlfriend is abusing you, you need to go to children’s services or contact your school counsellor who can help you with this. If they find that there is evidence of abuse they will no doubt send you to your mother’s unless there were allegations of abuse by your mother (Why doesn’t she have custody?) Everything put aside you cannot stay in a place where there is abuse. You need to seek help now. Sue…good luck
