I think my goldfish is carrying eggs.

I realize that goldfish do not get pregnant, per se, but they do carry eggs. One of my goldfish has always been slightly larger than the other but I can’t tell any difference otherwise. I noticed a few weeks ago that the bigger fish is getting huge! It’s twice the size of the other now. From what I’ve read, it appears to be carrying eggs. How long do they carry them before releasing them to be fertilized? I have had 2 goldfish in a 10 gallon tank for almost 3 years. Why are they pregnant now after all this time? What will the eggs look like? And lastly, what do I do?! We only have artificial plants in the tank so where will they be laid? I know that’s more than one question, but I need some answers!!

Hi,

I found this info online for you:

Can you look striaght down on her from the top? Is her stomach swollen evenly on both sides or is one side more swollen than the other? If you haven’t seen anyone chasing her and her sides look even then you might be having a totally different problem than her making eggs. If one side is slightly more swollen or you’ve seen someone chsing her she could be just about ready to lay her eggs. After that, if the male does his job, you could have babies in less than a week :D
