utopia

if only you knew how many people in here at Funadvice take random quotes from scripture and claim it to be the teachings we take to heart, theres an infinite amount it seems.

rude: Bad mannered; Obscene, pornographic, offensive; Tough, robust dismissive: Showing disregard, indicating rejection, serving to dismiss

those are the definitions of the words you claim me to be. rude and dismissive. I have done niether. you have read my post in the attitude and tone you WISH to percieve, my level of sarcasm isnt as high as you percieve and even if it was, its still not either of the things you claim me to be.

and yes I admit I was being a smart @ss. but thats what sarcasm is…

and yes I was challenging a post. my manner in which I challenged it was my decision, and no matter how much exageratedly you try to percieve it, is alll you.

by using that sarcastic statement you would easily understand that my point was that being a Christian, I can easily tell you thats not what we believe to be so. and I saw no problem using a little humor (myself being a human too…).

Answer #2

Athleta, I will answer you first. I was not talking to you. If you chose to take that personally, that is absolutely up to you. It’s part of your religious book. So try not to be too offended. It is in there. The person who posted this question took out a paraphrased quote (not even sure if it is a quote, but I’m going on a little faith that the person is not lying or making things up), completely out of context and put it out there… I was simply doing the same thing to make a point. So, lets make my point about the quran…

how do you know it wasnt someone just simply talking gibberish and its in the quran because its just a recorded conversation??

did you know the situation they were in to have to make such a drastic decision??

do you know who exactlly was saying that???

…oh…but I guess just cause its recorded as part of the history of the quran its what all Muslims teach and believe huh?…yeah that must be it…

I’d suggest you like maybe read the entire conversation before jumping in next time. Although I do appreciate the support in making my point for me.

thehelper - No. You’re right. It isnt a quote from christ. Christ said things about not judging others. Not so sure how well you’re doing on that count. Then again Christ also talked about hating your family… seems a little extreme.

26”If anyone comes to me and does not hate his father and mother, his wife and children, his brothers and sisters—yes, even his own life—he cannot be my disciple.

Answer #3

*how do you know it wasnt someone just simply talking gibberish and its in the torah because its just a recorded conversation??

It is insulting for you to speculate that gibberish was placed in the torah… I am ceratin that statement would have received quite a strong response from you if it were stated that the words attributed to Jesus were just someone talking gibberish and it was placed in the NT…

*…oh…but I guess just cause its recorded as part of the history of the bible its what all us Christians teach and believe huh?…yeah that must be it…

…but then again..what do I know…im just a Christian…

And that, my dear, is rude and dismissive… and that, my dear, is just the attitude that gives christians a bad name…

you were not simply challenging a post…you know it and I know it. You were being a smart a**… and I believe that is against the gibberish that is attributed to Jesus in the NT.

Answer #4

Althleta…

What is wrong with you? Do you believe that Jesus wants you to behave in that manner towards others? Is that what Jesus would do?

or do you just get off on treating non-christians with ridicule and sarcasm? Your attitude is exactly why people do not like many christians… Your behavior gives Christians a bad name…

And in the future do not be so rude and dismissive about the torah or judaism…the jews help to fulfill your christian prophecy of the return of Christ… You should be nice to us…without us…your messiah will not return. you should be nice to everyone… because kindness is part of the fruit of the Spirit, when God is working in your life to make you more like Jesus in treating others well (Gal 5:22).

Answer #5

lol you guys are funny cause I said not a single word of offense to anybody. and did not take anything offensively. nor did I judge anybody or discriminate.

YOU percieved such.

the sarcasm was to prove a point and it did. that you cant simply imply ONE quote from a book of scripture and expect thats what is being taught.

utopia

where did I offend anybody? when was I being rude or dismissive of the torah or judaism? was I? no..

Jesus would probably not like my sarcasm since obviously you misunderstood it…but I did not offend anybody with any word.

read my whole post again. youll see you misunderstood and then exagerated saying I offended anybody.

ty

ty understood exactly what I meant when you could basically exchange words from my post to make a point. and he/she did.

he/she too, made assumptions that I was discriminating and taking such a post as offense. for I did read the post and I did understand. but you using a quote stating it is what Christians believe, and it bieng false, deserves to be challenged. debated no?

point out every offense I made. and then tell me one more time that I did offend anybody, and that something is wrong with me. and that im giving christians a bad name. simply by challenging a post.

Answer #6

if she wants to convert no body can really stop her and Don’t take a small verse from Koran and miss quote it and when the prophet married Aisha she was not 6 she was 9 and that was normal at the time even Jews and crusaders didn’t bring the subject up because they did them self’s

Answer #7

My perception of your rude and dismissive behavior is my perception. As long as one person felt that you showed disregard and perceived your behavior as bad mannered…then you fit the bill. It matters not if everyone or just one felt these things for them to be true… It is bad mannered and offensive for you to imply the Torah contains gibberish… It shows disregard for you to be so dismissive of my feelings on that.

but I did not offend anybody with any word. read my whole post again. youll see you misunderstood and then exagerated saying I offended anybody. You offended me…

Now, I must ask…since you are so dismissive of the OT and the Torah…and claim that christians do not follow those teachings…does that include the Ten Commandments? Or do you just select which verses you will follow…some you like…some you don’t?

Answer #8

ty

your just simply quoting a verse from the old testament.

how do you know it wasnt someone just simply talking gibberish and its in the torah because its just a recorded conversation??

did you know the situation they were in to have to make such a drastic decision??

did Jesus ever teach of such??

do you know who exactlly was saying that???

was that Judaism of Christianity??

…oh…but I guess just cause its recorded as part of the history of the bible its what all us Christians teach and believe huh?…yeah that must be it…

…but then again..what do I know…im just a Christian…

Answer #9

Her parents, like most parents, would probably not be happy

Since we seem to have fun bandying around quotes from different religious books

“If thy brother … or thy son, or thy daughter, or the wife of thy bosom, or thy friend, which is as thine own soul, entice thee secretly, saying, Let us go and serve other gods … Thou shalt not consent unto him … neither shall thine eye pity him … But thou shalt surely kill him; thine hand shall be first upon him to put him to death, and afterwards the hand of all the people.”

Apparently the bible says you should kill those who try to convert you… hmm… Didnt learn that one in bible class did you?

Answer #10

fau, some people might think that you are Christian just because your parents and society are Christian.

As an atheist I find it interesting when my 6 year old daughter’s friends try to convert her. Some of her friends go to churches that tell kids they have to save all their friends. A few times she announced that she accepted Jesus as her lord and savior and is now a Christian but then again she still believes in Santa Clause and the tooth fairy so I’m not too worried.

I do recognize what a burden it is for Christians who believe that they have a monopoly on truth and a direct conduit to God and anyone who believes differently are heathens to be saved. It must be such a travail to have to save everyone else from themselves.

Answer #11

The tendency is to want to help your friends convert to your religion. I advise against that. If your friend wants to deal with that, that’s up to her, but I recommend that you stay neutral on the matter.

You don’t want her to later blame you for any problems that may arise, nor do you need the guilt that will be associated with any suffereing she may encounter as the result of such a decision.

Answer #12

We can’t even pretend to know how her parents are going to react - we don’t know them, and we don’t know the situation.

However, your friend has a tough choice to make…she could follow her own path at the risk of alienating her family, or she could remain with her family against her belief.

She needs to figure out which is most important to her before she makes that decision.

Answer #15

ty, your taking that verse from the old testament aren’t you? the foundation of christianity is in the new testament. and that clearly isn’t a quote from Christ.

Answer #16

The Bible says do not worry about what you will say to them the power of the Holy ghost will give you utterance.Win the soul to Christ. You are the person that God is using and heaven is backing you up,Be strong and courageous.Remember “he that wins souls is wise” I be praying for you

Answer #17

As teenagers, children rebel against their religion because submitting to religion requires maturity and faith. It depends on this girls parents, they might just want to their daughter to be happy or they might be very upset that she is turning her back on her families religion. I knew of a Greek Orthodox girl who converted to Islam, she lives in a women’s shelter now, and her family ignores her when they see her in the street. So it does really depend on the family, their traditions, etc. People uphold the laws of religion differently.

Oh and Sweetheard, Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her) was not 6. She was 6 at the time of the the CONTRACT. Which is a contract the Muslims (and/or the families agree) to. The dowry amount, any requests from the bride to be, where it is acceptable they live, etc. . . Then after this contract (any time later) is the public wedding, which is a party, etc. It was at least 3 YEARS before the wedding was consummated, some Scholars put her age at 10 and some even at 19.

Even so, that was the “norm” back then. Generally girls were married young. Aishah had a wonderful life and loved her life with the Prophet (pbuh)

Answer #18

Fun fact: It’s Ayesha(R.A) Girls back then were married really young. The marriage was solemnised when she hit puberty.
