How can I keep my parents together?

I am really worried at the moment that my mum and dad are going to break up and leave each other because my mum said a few days ago she would leave if she could and they have arguments a lot and say they dont have anything in common. I really dont want it to happen so I try and do loads of jobs so they dont have to moan at me for being lazy but my older brother is really lazy and doesnt do a thing so everytime they see my bro they yell and shout. I dont want to have to live with just one parent if my parents break up but I cant help them and try as I might my bro wont stop being lazy. what can I do???

Answer #1

I would communicate with them both to voice your concerns - either a meeting (individually or together) or write a note for each - above all, know that this is not your or your brothers fault, in any way - I wish you the very best !!

Answer #2

You are absolutely not responsible for the state of your parents marriage and no amount of housework you do is going to keep them together, just as not doing housework is not going to be the reason they split apart. Your brother being has nothing to do with it either. Sit them down, either one at a time or together to voice your concerns. Keep in mind though that should their marriage disolve, that they are people just like you and they dont deserve to be in a miserable situation, this only makes you and your brother miserable too. Good luck, Take care

Answer #3

You need to talk to them both. Unfortunately you can’t stop them breaking up but you can maybe let them see that they can try to repair what ever the problem is. Not to give up without trying to make things work.

Good Luck

How strange, I’m in exactly the same situation. I’m convinced they will split up. My brother does nothing and I keep trying to make my mum happy but nothing works.. You posted your question over 2 years ago can I ask did they split up? ..Have you any advice for me? Much appreciated Amy
