how/ when does birth control start working?

I’ve been on birth control for 2 weeks and am wondering if it would be working yet? because me and my boyfriend are thinking of sex and I dont want to get pregnant. we will be useing a condom but if it breaks will I be protected with the pill yet?

Answer #1

good for you for thinking about your sexual health.

Usually (I suggest reading the pamplet that came with your pill) birth control pills become effective between 10 and 14 days (so you should be protected by now.) HOWEVER you will be unprotected for your first withdrawal bleed and 7 days thereafter.

So it is recommended (which you are doing so you should be fine) to use condoms for the first 2 months or so when starting the pill.

and another piece of advice: Get some extra lubrication when using condoms. That will greatly REDUCE the chances of them tearing.

Answer #2

well it depends on what form of birth control youre using. when I was on the pill, my doctor said it’d take 3 months. now I’m on the patch and it only took one month. so it differs.

Answer #3

well it depends on what kind of birth control you’re using. I was on the pill and my doctor told me it could take up to 3 months to be completely effective and regulated. now I’m on the patch and it only took 1 month. soo it differs I guess.

Answer #4
