How well do dachshunds get along with cats?

My family has a 3 year old female mini dachshund named Pixie, and while we were at Petco, we found the cutest little cat in the world! She was a long haired calico found by the Vet Pet Rescue locked in a port-o-potty :’( We want her REALLY bad, but we don’t know how Pixie will respond. She barks at every animal she sees, but she also barks at people, and she LOVES people, so we’re not sure if it’s aggression. She doesn’t snap at people like most dachshunds do. The only time she’s ever bitten any one was on accident when my sister was playing with her, and Pixie grabbed at a toy she had. We wanna know, if we do get a cat, will she try to hurt it?

You probably would have been better off getting the cat when the dog was young so it would have a chance to get used to it, we have multiple cats and a dog, and when we got a new one, they got along instantly, and he’s a huge dog! German Shepard. You might want to try bringing your dog around other cats, cautiously of course, she how she reacts. I think it would be likely that, if forced to live under the same roof they may get along, but I’m not positive about that.
