How to reduce fractions?

I was wondering how to you reduce and simplify fractions?

Answer #1

3/6=1/2 and so forth.

to reduce a fraction simply determine a number that will divide both the numerator and the denominator. In the above example either value (num. and denom.) are divisible by three. thus: 3div3=1 and 6div3=2.

3/6 reduces to 1/2 9/24 reduces to 3/8 10/32 reduces to 5/16

Capiche? =D

Answer #2

Also do not get upset but there is a book called fractions for dummies and it should be at any book store like Borders or Barnes Nobles, etc. that is also helpful when you have math difficulties ok, hope you get it because reducing fractions is the easy part.

Reducing means make smaller into a simpler form so think of a bigger portion being broken down into something smaller using a number that both the numerator & the denominator can both divide into evenly okay? Good Luck!!!

Answer #3

There are two types of fractions

a.) Proper fractions b). Improper fractions

Example: Proper Fraction is 2/14 when you reduce it is 2/14=1/7 because 2 1 if you divide this you get 1/2 also f — —

                                                                                                                                14 7
Answer #4

Find a number that will go into both the top number and the bottom number. For instance: 9/12 three will go into both so divide both numbers by 3 9 divided by 3 = 3 and 12 divided by 3 = 4 so the answer would be 3/4. Another one: 10/25 5 goes into both 10 divided by 5 = 2 and 25 divided by 5 = 5 so the answer is 2/5. When you get an answer, see if it can be reduced more, like this: 20/80 divide both numbers by 10 you get 2/8 but 2 will still go into both so divide them by 2 you get 1/4.
