How to propagate willows?

Answer #1

I have always propagated willows by cutting off a branch, and sticking the cut end directly into the ground. Simple as that. The severed branch will grow it’s own roots from there.

It is important to note that the Willow has an extensive root system that will follow and find underground water sources rather well. It is important not to insititute propagation near sewer systems. The roots will inhibit the sewer system and clog it tremendously.

In addition, willow branches in the past have been known to be used for well witching also because of their uncanny ability to locate underground water sources.

Hope This Helps !
