How to find out if I need antidepressents at 13 years old?

Kay. Im 13, almost 14. (; but im not all energetic like all the other kids my age. My mom just moved to virginia, and left me in arizona with my dad. Shes been gone for about a month or two. I think me and my boyfriend are just barely holding on anymore. Sometimes I like to just lay in my bed and cry myself to sleep. I dont know whats wrong with me. I dont want to talk to my dad about it, because im not close to him. I wanna talk to my mom about it, but all I can do is talk to her on the phone. And I dont want to make her feel guilty about leaving me and my brothers and sister..she is a traveling nurse, now. But she lives there with her new boyfriend. And it doesnt seem like she really misses us. Because she calls like once every couple of days.. I dont know whats up with me. I used to be playful and full of happiness. But yah…help please?? Thanks.

In my opinion, you NEVER need antidepressants. They are dangerous chemicals that have very serious, if not fatal, effects. They only mask your symptoms and do not under any circumstances (nor do they claim to) treat any causes. There is no such thing as a ‘side effect.’ That is a made-up phrase that just means ‘effects we don’t like to talk about.’ Some antidepressants cause boys to develop PERMANENT breasts. They also are known to cause younger children to commit suicide, make you have disturbing, real-seeming dreams.

All you need do to determine that antidepressants are not the way to is check their websites. They don’t know what causes depression, they don’t even know what their drugs do! Stay away from them, you’re playing with fire.

You want to talk to people, eat good food (not junk food!) and get enough sleep. Take vitamins. It is normal to get depressed on occasion, especially for teenagers - it is a very difficult time in life, and it is probably a difficult time in both of your parent’s lives, so they’re going through things too. Talk to people, get outside, it will help.

I know how you feel. I use to take some pills for depression (im 15). and well they kinda work. and I also went to therapy. but just try to enjoy life look at the good sides of it not the negatives. and remember things happen for a reason. wish you the best :]

well… my opionin is that if you get more depressed like almost killing urself. thats when you take em. but you may be just joying through stress which sometimes causes mood swings

Talk to a psychiatrist? A lot of antidepressants are not for use with under 18 year olds. They’re not magic happy pills (or everyone would be taking them). They need to be used in combination with therapy. Ask to talk to a therapist.

You should try talking to friend. Or a doctor. Get second opinions. Or you could write in a journal? Sometimes, all you need is to tell someone. Or you could tell your mom over the phone, and tell her that you don’t want her to feel guilty. Tell her that you just had to let her know. :) Hope this helped. :)

I don’t think antidepressants is the best for someone as young as you. Trust me, I have problems too. And not to sound like the steryotypical advisor but take your focus off the bad things and focus only on good things. You have a boyfriend? Make your relationship the best it’s ever been. Get closer to your dad. Believe me, it’s hard, but try. Relate to people, like your younger siblings. It’ll help you and them. I’m sure they’re hurting to since your mom left. I’ve went through that before, too. And it’s not easy. But you can do it. Trust me. Just don’t absorb your life in negativity. It’s not good for you. Find a positive outlet for your frustration and anger. Like music. That’s mine. Or writing. Sports. I record music and play sports. It keeps my head on straight, you know? I honestly don’t think you need to go to a doctor or a shrink. You’re fine =]]
