Setup a table (or tables) with the items that people can bid on. Then setup a stack of pens and note cards for them to write their name, cell phone and bid amount on the card, which then they should slide into a sealed container (wooden box or similar is great). This way, you can’t see competing bids from other people who are participating in the auction.

After the event, or time frame, expires, you read each bid for each item and contact the winner telling them that they have won the prize. You should, just in case, have rules in place for ties, etc, perhaps they write the date on their bid, so that you determine the first one who bid that amount gets the item, etc.
