How to Become a Law Enforcement Officer?

I’m not in it for the money, it’s always been something I’ve wanted to do, and eventually become a detective for a PD. I am currently getting my GED [homeschooled], and will be getting a Bachelor’s in Criminal Justice if all goes accordingly… I do suffer from Depression, and am being treated, of course. I’m not bi-polar, or schizophrenic or anything, just depressed. It’s been years since I was diagnosed, and it’s probably something I’ll be treated for all my life. Would I still qualify for the job with this condition, as people call it? I take Lamictal and Zoloft [generic form, sertraline I believe is how it’s spelt.] Not a high dosage of either, it’s moderate, and combined they help me out a lot. Any help, advice, etc.?

Answer #1

you also have to be 21 to start the police academy which is a 6 month training process which you will live on the grounds and from there determine if you will be able to go through with it

Answer #2

As long as the condition is being properly monitored and treated, it shouldn’t be a problem. You do usually have to undergo a psych evaluation and that will determine your ability to do your job.
