How much computer time is too much

My (almost) 16 year old son plays at least 8 hours a day of counter strike. he plays from right after dinner til 2 or 3 in the morning. sure he could be out getting into trouble and that would be worse but it just seems like a heck of a lot of time on the computer. what is reasonable?

umm if you want him to get out of the house, say your leaving and grab your keys, and if he like me, he will think your going to a store or somthing and he will go,a and I gest take him to a park, or somwere for like a hour then bring him home :P

Answer #3

over summer, I’m aloud to be on line all I want and stuff. but if he starts making a lot of nosie and stuff make him go to bed, but rihgt now it summer so let him, but shen it come around school, you got to get him back in his normal sleeping habit, and not let him, cause it will be hard for him, and it might be hard for you to.

Thanks for your answers. I know its not hurting anyone I’m just concerned because thats ALL he does. Sleeps til 1pm and doesn’t really get out of the house much. Just thinking he needs to socialize more. Thanks again

Answer #5

maybe he should cut back some and get outside and do something. but since its summer just let him but it wouldn’t hurt to make him do something outside..

Answer #6

We were discussing this in class recently, the difference between use and addiction of computer games (some kids actually get addicted). 8 hours is a lot of time… Does he have friends? Have you noticed a trend where he’s been spending more and more time (over the past couple of months/years) playing the game? How does he react when you tell him to stop? Is it interfering with the rest of his life?

Answer #7

its summer so let it go. during school though not ok.

Answer #8

I’d say that’s excessive. Try getting him out of the house. If you have time to do so, take him to the woods or out for icecream (Though that’s also quite a bad habit). My kid is only five and spent about four hours on Club Penguin, once. The next day, when he asked to use the computer, I suggested we go to the creek, instead. He was very content, catching crawfish until dark, then too tired to play when we got home.

Most people play those games out of boredom. Cure the boredom and you should cure the excessive gaming.
