How do you stop parents from being so over protective ??
I am 18 and have always been good. I normally dont get in trouble. But my parents still insist on being so over protective. For example, my father wants me to start datin when Im 21. I’ve already started dating although he disapproves. How do I make them realize that I am a young lady now and that they should give me some freedom ?
At 18 years old, they are not respecting you if they insist in treating you like a 12 year old. Your opinion should have as much importance as theirs on things that affect your life and should not be brush off. At 18 years old unless there is a chance of hurting yourself the final word on most things should be yours. I say must things because you still depend on your parents for food, housing and possibly money.
After you move out, then even if it means that your decisions may hurt you or others, they can have a say in the matter and give you counsel but the final word concerning your life, after you live on your own, is yours.
In the long run over protection will do you more harm than good and actually will bring upon you the same bad things that they were trying to protect you from.
Since your parents are always a shield to protect you from harm and don’t allow you to learn from your own mistakes, once you start to rely on yourself you will find yourself loss and looking for mom and dad to fix it for you.
parents will always be overprotective, especially with girls. try to be as respectfull as you can, prove to them you are responsible and independant, maybe that will help a lil.
parents will always be overprotective, especially when it comes to girls. like some of the others said, try to respect your parents as much as possible. the more responsible and independant you are the more freedom your likely to have.
im 20 and my parents still think they own me…just wait it out its on 24 months away thats not long compared to how long youve been on this planet so far. do as you wish but just respect them as much as possible.
show them you can take care of yourself prove them you independant and you make good choices
If your 18 you don’t have to listen to them.
