How do I make my hair stay dark when I dye it?

naturally I am a dirty blonde, but EVERY TIME I dye my hair, whether I dye it brown or blonde, it always fades to a brownish blondish reddish color… its a pretty color, but its not what I want. I want my hair to stay a dark brown. I just dyed it a few weeks ago and its already lightening up and showin some SERIOUS red undertones. how do I keep it from turning red on me? im seriously considering dying it black, if that would even do any good, I dont know. but how do I make it stay dark brown? is there a REALLY GOOD dye that would hold its color in my hair for a long time or what? I need some help here please…

I use herbal essence’s “color me happy” shampoo and conditioner, and I dont dye my hair often. the last time I dyed it before a few weeks ago was over a year ago. and I dont think its the undertones from the dye, I have dyed my hair blonde before as well, I’ve been dying it since the 8th grade and im now in college, but my hair ALWAYS fades out to the same color

It is most likely the shampoo you are using! Some shampoos will strip your color from your hair if it is not for color treated hair.

Try going to your local beauty supply and asking for a “color depositing” shampoo… It adds color to your hair every time you shampoo it.

if you are buying browns with a red undertone in it that is why it is turning red shades. a good way to hold color in your hair is to not wash it in hot water and don’t wash it for a few days after dying it, that is how the color fades fast. there are some shampoos that you can buy that are for colored hair to help maintain the color.

you should put on a shower cap well dyin and keep heat on it like hold a blowdryer on your head for about 7 minuets & dont wash your hair with panteeen it fades of the color

goodlluck!

I have EXACTLY the same problem!! and I know how you feel..I’ve been dying my hair over and over again for the last year trying to get my natural colour back! im thinking about dying my hair black too but tbh its not the nicest of colours and probably wouldnt suit you if your originally blonde.. what im gonna do is buy expensive-ish dye then get some colour shampoo and conditioner and hopee it’ll work! :P lol good luck x

Answer #6

if you are coloring your entire head with ONE color, use a neutral protein filler FIRST..Follow directions on the product. If you are a one color dye job, every 7-8 shampoos you can use a color cap which is basically the normal hair color you use, mix will 10 or less volume peroxide and water, mix, apply to hair and let remain on your head for 5 min. Wash, condition, and style as usual. This will revitalize the exisiting color. DO NOT USE THIS METHOD IF YOUR HAIR IS COLOR WEAVED AND THIS WILL A/DARKEN LIGHTER HAIR, OR LIGHTEN DARKER HAIR. Hope this helps, but we use this process inthe salon and it works great. DO NOT GET TOO CLOSE TO SCALP, FOCUS ON THE STRANDS OF THE HAIR.

if this is something you are really trying to do then bleach your hair first then dye it the color you want get it done in a salon never do this one your own if you realy dont know how also dont dye you hair so offen that could be the reson for your hair turnig the mixing of the colors cause you didnt wait long enought between the dyes . hope this helps

Answer #8

I have the same problem as you but whatever you do dont dye your hair black :| I did that and it looks HORRIBLE it doesn’t suit me. You can get black hair dye and keep it in for 5 minutes it turns your hair dark brown and looks very nice I always do that now:)
