How do I know if my hymen is unusual?

I recently learned that there are a lot of different ways in which a hymen can be unusual. From what I have read, girls can have hymens that completely cover the vagina or ones that are partially there but no matter what type, unless it is the normal hymen it causes problems with menstruation and can only be corrected by minor surgery. Apparently you can tell if your hymen is normal by seeing if you are able to insert tampons or not and if your menstruation is normal as well. However, my problem is that I seem to have a perfectly normal menstruation cycle but no matter what I can not insert a tampon no matter how hard I have tried. I tried to follow a diagram with pictures of different hymens but it was extremely unclear and I couldn’t tell! I’d like to find out so that I can decide whether to visit the doctor or not! Can anyone help?

It’s probably a slightly smaller sized hymen. Or maybe you’re not relaxed enough. Relax, and you might be able to stretch it enough so you can insert a tampon. Careful not to hurt yourself though.
