How do I get my dad to stop smacking?

Well, My dad keeps smacking everytime we eat like now. Everytime we eat he smacks so loud… its sooo aggervating.. it got to the point where I don’t want to eat around him… or just eat period.. I try to talk to him but he just says “ you smack to” wich I don’t. I don’t want to hurt his feelings. Can someone help?

When you say you try to talk to him is it at the dinner table? I think this is something that you need to approach in another way. Ask your dad whether you can have a private word with him at some point when he is fairly relaxed (I.e not after he just gets in from work or is busy) and then bring it up maturely. Say that you really do find his table habits quite distressing at times, but that his approach to it makes you feel even worse and like he is belittling you. Just say that you want him to make a conscious effort to try and improve and that you will too if he really feels you smack as well.

To be honest, there is not much else you can do. If he knows how you feel then all he can do is try. Maybe ask whether you may listen to your ipod while you eat or whether you can have the TV on in the background? Anything that will help distract you from the noise. It is probably only the fact that you are so conscious of it that makes it so bad, it may not bother you if you try to just focus on what you are doing yourself. Even try singing in your head or something just to put your focus elsewhere?

Good luck and I am sorry this is getting to you so much.
