how do I convince my mom to let me go to a concert?

I wanted to go to edgefest 18 with my friend (her dad works behind the stages a\with the setup crew and so she can get us in free to like anywhere almost if her dad is there)

and my mom said NO.

but my brother (yes he’s 18 now but even when he wasnt) could go to all the concerts he wants. and she says “well he doesnt live with us he lives with his dad and he’s a boy, so he can protect himslef more”

DOUBLE STANDARD a little right there? I think SO!

well anyways I always want to go to concerts,

and I want to convince my mom to let me go, but I dont know how. should I just wait till im old enough? or how can I convince her to trust me?

p.s. but if panic at the disco EVER comes to were I am at, I will run away and walk to that concert, nothing will hold me back form seing them if they come here. lmao :P

No matter how unfair it is - there is always a double standard when it comes to girls. You are their baby girl - no matter what age you are. You are also more prone to being abused, sexually assaulted, have something slipped in your drink, peer pressured, knocked up, or kidnapped. A parent has a lot to worry about and I think kids forget these things.

Have you tried getting an older adult to come with you. Maybe not your parents but an older cousin, aunt, friend of the family, somthing like that. That way your family would feel you are more protected?

In the end though - you are still underage and still live under their roof and it’s their rules whether you like them or not. Also, running away is the STUPIDEST thing you could possibly do. You will lose , ALL respect, ALL trust, ALL privledges and I hope you enjoy that concert you ran away too because it would be your last.

hun, you’re like 13. of course she doesnt want you to go to a concert with only a friend. even if her dad works backstage, its not like he’ll be watching you-he’s working!

I agree with your mom. just wait till you’re olderrr.

(:

I went to my first concert when I was 16. I drove myself. I already had a job and I bought the tickets myself. I was so nervous when I told my folks matter-of-factly that I was going, but they didn’t bat an eyelash. I think being independent was a big part of it. Don’t know that that helps much - maybe gives you something to look forward to and work for?
