How do I convince my dad to get me guitar lessons?

I’ve talked to him about it before. I’ve told him over & over that I’d do anything to get them. I’d probably even pay for the lessons myself. I have a guitar, but its missing a string & its so out of tune, its not even funny! I found a site that teaches you how to play songs on the guitar, the only problem is; I don’t know how to read it! Music is amazing, & to be able to play it is even better! I ask him to look for lessons & he said he will. But then like a week later, I mention it again, & he hasn’t done anything about it!? How do I get him to look for some??

I can tell you as a one-time music retailer and educator that the BEST way to learn an instrument is one-on-one with an accomplished musician. Videos and CD-ROMs should only be considered as a last resort.

You really need someone to mentor you in person. Someone who can say to you things like, “you’re not positioning your hand correctly. Here–let me show you.” That sort of thing.

The key to learning the guitar is two-fold:

A) Make sure it’s not a cheap guitar. Make sure your guitar is ‘set up’. In other words, a guitar that has been gone over by a qualified technician to ensure that the action is set correctly; that the harmonics and intonation are all adjusted properly, etc. There is no greater deterrent to successful learning of the guitar than trying to learn on an uninspiring piece of junk! This is a sure-fire way to have it end up under your bed, collecting dust bunnies the rest of its days.

Go get your lessons! Make sure your instrument is top notch, and play on!

Well if you’re willing to pay for lessons yourself than what are you waiting for - go sign yourself up. Why do you need his help if you are the one paying for it?

Answer #3

check this out, grab your out of tune guitar, and play horribly, all day and all night, until he can’t stand it anymore, and gets you lessons, and if that don’t work, sit right next to him, and tune it, and tune the real thick string as tight as you can till it snaps and aim for his eye lmao… just kidding about the second part, don’t do that… honestly I learned piano from books, it took a long time, trial and error, and I really don’t read music that well but I can play like crazy :) and I can play almost anything by ear, just learn what the different notes are, and learn your scales, and you can start freestylin stuff, it’s fun

Answer #4

If you look in the phone book yellowpages you’ll be able to find someone. If not look for local listings on the internet.

Answer #5

Id go sign myself up in a heartbeat, but I don’t know anyone that gives guitar lessons.

Answer #6

You can learn it online…see jamplay.com or even expertvillage.com…Good luck…
