How did the holocaust stop?

Well I was learning about the holocaust in RE at school and I was wondering how did the holocaust actually stop? Did the Nazi’s just suddenly realise it was bad or something?

It stopped because the Russians, Americans, and British had pushed far enough into Germany by 1944 and 1945 that they began coming across the German concentration camps. A few camps were never found intact as they were destroyed and abandoned by the Germans as Allied troops began gaining ground.

yeah after the allies started to push forward the camp guards deserted and left everyone in the camps, then the allies came in and cleaned up

probably something to do with the fact that they had lost the war. I would suspect those in charge of the camps might’ve made themselves pretty scarce before the allied troops arrived!
