How can you get a noisey upstairs neighbor to stop being so rude?

So, this guy moved in upstairs recently. When he is home, he walks like an elephant, slams his doors, and makes an absurd amount of noise with his music that contains nothing but annoying beats.

He keeps causing my condo to vibrate causing my windchimes inside to cling and clang. He keeps freaking out my dog because the dog keeps thinking someone is at the door.

I went to talk to him… nicely. Before I even knocked on the door he flung open his door and looked around the corner, and then I asked him if he could turn down his music because it’s very loud. He goes “yea that’s understandable, next time you can be nicer about it” then shuts the door.

I have a pulsing headache, and I have short nerves due to being bi-polar type two.

Is there something I can do within my legal rights about this?

Answer #1

smack him in the face

Answer #2

I like stag3rd’s idea… however… I lack a firearm.

I contacted someone who might find a way to take care of it. It’s his first day living there, so if it does keep going, I will file a complaint with the city police department.

I left him a note this time. I’m close to losing my mind.

Answer #3

do NOT call 911 !!! I do not condone using the police at all but if you do call the non emergency number. it can be found in the front of your phone book or on information, you can even ask the next popo you see for it. 911 is to important to be used for such trivial matters keep it free for EMERGENCYS

Answer #4

get one of your friends that are really loud like me :) and get them to go to their house and be like hey you cant play music so stop trying, and your not an elephant so stop walking likeone etc. Thats what id do but I would get a friend id do it myself.

Answer #5

write a note explaining what you dont like and why and slip it under his door maybe you could also try going around and ask the other neihbours (if other people live in the same building/house) if they also dont like the noise and perhaps they could write what they dont like too

Answer #6

yes there is, observe him. when he sleeps make the most inordinately obnoxious repulsive noise you can and do not stop. do this early in the morning especially after nights one usually goes out to party. do it on Sundays or if you can hear when he watches his favorite prime time TV shows or football games. do this until he complains and offer to make a trade, silence and respect for silence and respect. if that doesnt work I suggest discharging a large firearm into the ceiling next time hes loud.

Answer #7

uhh file a noise complaint?

Answer #8

Answer #9

Answer #10

id go to the landlord!

Answer #11

Condo’s are generally privately owned.

Answer #12

IT DOESN’T WORK!! Trust me, I been there done that got the f t-shirt to prove it. So forget about asking them to quiet down. In addition, it could be that there is someone above them making noise and they are having a war (which is whats happening to me) Or it could be that they don’t give a F and are just being rude and inconsiderate. Chances are if thats the case they are not going to turn it down. Your best bet is to give them a taste of their own medicine. Buy a subwoofer put your speakers as close to the ceiling as you can get them and blast your fg radio when they are trying to sleep. It doesn’t have to be music. Get creative with the S You can use white noise or even some lame news station or make a barking dog recording. The point is you pay rent too. My motto is if I can’t get any rest and relaxation everybody suffers. I use to be like you to but now I dont take S* from noone.
