How can my boyfriend's father get his other son back?

Ok well my boyfriend(jeff)was adopted and his step brother(shawn) who is 9 and was just taken away from his dad(nick) by his mom(they are divorced) nick has had shawn and taken care of him for atleast a year! Now this lady took them to court today and took shawn from them!!! But they got nicks other son(daniel)who I know very little about… They live in illinois how can they get shawn back(leagally)? They miss him terribly and im sure he misses them! They aren’t even aloud to see him in person at all!!! Just talk over the phone! If they sue for custody how much of a chance does nick(the dad) have of winning? And what should they focus on pointing out the most in court?

ok just got some info on the mom ok she has remarried and her husband has 8 kids and they live in a ONE BEDROOM apartment! she does not have a job and her husband makes very little money! also shawn did not want to go with her they have another court date for tomorrow and nick makes around 200,000 dollars has a 4 bedroom house and a very expensive lawyer also they live in illinois if this will help people lease tell me how in * could the court give shawn to this women?

In California, the odds of a Dad getting sole or full time custody, even if the woman has been convicted of crimes…are very slim.

However, it’s a state specific issue as the court system will work differently based on where you live…the ONLY chance he has is with a lawyer.

(looks around) and I have never known us to be the place for sound legal advice, for that you have to spend money and hire a professional.
