Does a high school student have any control on not getting switched classes?

My perents want to switch me out of my english class because they met my teacher in perent teacher conferences and found out that she is a lesbian. I don’t have a problem with it, she has been one of the best teachers i’ve had in english, and I have gotten close to her, I asked my foster perents if they could do anathing and they said not in this situation because my perents do have some right to me. Is there anathing that I can do so I don’t get switched? Do I have a saying in this?

Answer #1

You could try persuasion: If you are getting good grades in her class, tell your mum and dad that you like her teaching style and would not do as well in other classes. Also you could say all your friends are in that class as well, and it would be a bummer to have to leave. Also explain to your parents that you really like this English class and that you are uncomfortable with the other English teacher. Your parents wouldn’t want you to do bad in your classes would they?

Answer #2

Over your parents? No. Contact your social worker though. He or she may be able to do something about this.

Answer #3

I had been switched about five times during 9th grade, I didn’t have a choice, because the classes were far too full and I came late in the year, but under different circumstances you might have control. You’d have to ask the school staff.

Answer #4

Well i don’t think, even with your parents wishes that you could be switched because that is prejudice. Then again, if you could be what kind of a world are we living in? I think that is wrong- it doesn’t matter whether you’re teacher is a lesbian, straight, black or white… what matters is that she can teach and do her job.

Answer #5

That is true. But the principal would most likely honor their wishes to avoid trouble. It sucks, but there’s no law against being prejudiced about your child’s teacher. And while very few people would be willing to admit racism, unfortunately homophobia is so much more acceptable to verbalize

Answer #6

Uhm that’s really rude of your parents to want to switch you because of her sexual orientation and if your parents were to tell your principal the reason they want to switch you in the first place i’m sure they wouldn’t switch you also if you confront your principal about how you think your doing exceptionally well and you think it’s even horrible that they are making you switch just say you think you may not get the same mark with another teacher because you like her style of teaching. Pretty sure if you think it will better your mark and explain that they won’t switch you. Because over all it’s about your education.
