Most likely, if a wound is created, where rust has a role in entering exposed flesh. The infection would most likely come upon you. This could also cause blood poisoning, if you find a stretch of a red line across your arm and it gets bigger/longer, you need to go to the ER.
You can develop tetanus (hence the name) which is not just an infection but a deadly infection of the nervous system if left untreated.
I'd add that the rust has nothing to do with the tetanus. You can just as easily get tetanus from any cut or puncture wound.
