Is a gynecologist allowed to tell the parents things?

Say, for example, I told my gyno i had sex, would they tell my mom?

Answer #1

if u are under 18 yes if u r over 18 not unless he/she has your permission

Answer #2

Well here, if you are age of consent (16) or older, everything is confidential, if you’re under that age and there is a serious problem they will tell you’re gaurdian

Answer #3

Wow I can’t believe the other answers! Where I live, they aren’t allowed to tell anyone anything you tell them no matter how old you are unless it’s a risk to your safety.

Answer #4

That would really depend on where you live. You’d have to check with the laws where you live.

Answer #5

Yes They would tell your parent/gaurdian unless you are over the age of consent then he/she would need your permission before speaking of it. But of course like every other place, the age of consent may vary depending on where you live. And if you really did have sex, i would do a little research if i were you on the age consent in your community before jumping to crazy conclusions.

Answer #6

That’s up to you. If your parents insist on seeing any results, they have the right to tell them(if you’re under 18). But if you are over 18, they cannot give out your information to anybody.

Answer #7

Like everyone else is saying, if you’re under 18 and aren’t a legal adult, they are legally aloud to tell your parents about what’s going on. Especially if you have gotten something from having sex, like an STD and you need to be treated for it. Or if you are pregant. But I’m pretty sure if anything like that happened you would tell your mom about it yourself.

Answer #8

In general whatever you tell your doctor is private. Doctors are discreet so patients will feel comfortable confiding in them. However, as a minor your doctor may feel that it is in your best interest to share things you discussed with your parents. This isn’t common but it could happen. If you are 17 it is unlikely that your doctor would feel like they have to share info about your love life with your parents. Doctors are there to help you life a healthy, productive, and happy life; not to be a spy for your parents.
