What do you guys think about domesticated foxes?

keyword: domesticated not tamed. i just found out about them and they were domesticated by a scientist in Russia and apparently people pay huge bucks for it. just wonderin what u guys think. is it worth the money to buy them?? more loyal? more freindly? anything…

Answer #1

I hate the thought of wild animals being domesticated. Some people don’t give a f*ck about animals emotions and feelings but hey, how would you feel if you were taken from your home, stripped of your rights and put in unfamiliar surroundings with creatures you don’t know?

Answer #2

wolves were domesticated into dogs!!! j ust curious, r u against that?

Answer #3

Depends what kind of wolves they are ‘cause some dogs are related to wolves and aren’t ‘wild animals’.

Answer #4

All dogs share a common ancestory to the grey wolf. u get dogs like chu wa wa (don’t know how to spell) that don’t look anything like the wolf through years of selective breeding. this is why i wrote “keyword: domesticated not tamed.”

Answer #5

Foxes that were raised in a domesticated environment are not having their rights “stripped” … they’ve never been wild, so they can’t very well miss it. It’s the same for any other animal, and what adit is saying is sensible - there was a time when even cats and dogs were “wild”.

Answer #6

Colleen, I’m not arguing with him… He asked what peoples’ opinions are and I gave him mine. There’s no need to correct me on anything…

Answer #7

I don’t think its right to keep any animal in a cage

Answer #8

Adit, yes dogs like that are “ancestors” to wild dogs, I know that. What I thought you meant was wild animals like foxes being domesticated after living in the wild.

Answer #9

Finally someone who understands where I’m coming from! :)

Answer #10

:-)

Answer #11

Actually, there was a need to correct you … you made a false statement.

Answer #12

I actually read something about that in national geographic. The fox’s had been domesticated though like 16 generations or something. I personally dont see anything wrong with it. If they had been ripped out of there natural habitat then stuck in a cage i’d find it wrong. But any pet we have now days was once a wild animal.

Answer #13

Years ago, I had a relation who nursed a fox, he had broken his leg. In spite of numerous attempts to return him to the wild, the fox would not go.

The fox, ‘Ayisha’ was never caged, he had the freedom to come and go as he pleased. He had domesticated himself.

Having supported the domestication of this particular fox, I do not think it right that wild foxes should be sought out for domestication.

Answer #14

When animals are taken from the wild they are stripped of their rights as a free animal. That’s not a false statement, you just feel the need to correct everyone on everything.

Answer #15

thxs for ur insight.

Answer #16

He’s not talking about taking them from the wild - he’s talking about foxes raised domestically … two very different things, and yes … if you answer something incorrectly, I’m going to say so.

Answer #17

Even though I gave my opinion so incorrectly, other people on Fun Advice think the same way. :)

Answer #18

They are awesome, a lot of work, and they have skinky scent glands like skunks (that are removable).

Answer #19

Answer #20
