What is a green card?

What’s a green card and why do you need them? Can you explain the process of what you have to go through? Are they expensive? I literally know nothing about them so all information will be great :)

A green card is usually a permission to stay and work in a country other than your own. The process of getting one depends on the country you want to go to. i think its usage is retricted to some countries because we arent familiar with the green card thingy in my country
