Are glasses a good or bad thing?

My dad has had bad vision since he was younger than me. he’s far sighted (or something like that) meaning it’s harder to see things closer to you than farther away. Well I started having trouble reading my notes when the teacher turned the lights down in the class room so i went to the eye doctor (BTW when he dilated my pupils it looked really creepy, but awesome) anyways I’m getting reading glasses now. i could have gotten some to wear all the time, but honestly i don’t think glasses will look too good on me…any opinions? what are the pros and cons? ect. IDK exactly what I’m asking here, i guess just to discuss this topic overall. :D Thanks.

Glasses will help your eyes a hell of a lot, that’s why people wear them. I have reading glasses. I think you’d suit glasses, you can try on different ones, you know to see what ones you like.

You get used to them, just get ones that are confortable! I had ones before that would dig into my nose and they hurt after a few hours of wearing them but I wear mine at work for reading the till. It helps, trust me.

Btw, you’re not a geek or a loser if you wear glasses. I think you’d be silly if you need them and you didn’t wear them.

Comfortable*

Answer #3

Well they’re pretty good when you can’t see. Plus these days, you can get some fashionable ones! I needed some for reading and I was really picky about what I wanted to wear but I found some that I liked that were also discounted and I love them!

Answer #4

they can b really great thing if u need them and they could b bad if u dnt. really doesnt matr if others think their bad cuz ur eyes r the ones that need em. alls u gota do is get ya a cute frame and go on bout cha buisness. u only get one set of eyes to use n ur lifex so u gota take care of em no matr what any1 thinks. if sum1 doesnt like that u hav em oh well they can turn their heads cuz im sure u didnt ask them to look at ya anywayz. if people wana stare tell em to take a picture itll last longr or u can just do what id do and tell em to kick rockx. keep ya head up no matr what

Answer #5

Glasses are definitely good. Have you considered contact lenses?

Answer #6

I absolutely LOVE my glasses! I have contact lenses too, but I often choose to wear mt glasses because I love the way they look. You will definately be able to find some that suit you. You just need to get the right shape and style for your face. And as you are far sighted, you wouldnt even need to wear them most of the time anyway.

Answer #7

If you have problems seeing and do not get glasses or contacts it can make your eyesight worse. Best to get it taken care of. Glasses are cute :)

Answer #8

I thought the same thing when I first got my reading glasses and because i thought i looked silly i didn’t wear them…now i’m as blind as a bat and i have to have glasses 24/7 haha…so they are definitely a good thing. I think glasses look great myself…but some prefer the contacts…contacts are great though 2…especially if you love to wear sun shades :)

At your age you do not have presbyopia yet so there really isn’t any such thing as “reading glasses.” Not sure what your doctor was getting at here but at 14 your doctor should be correcting for distance and your eyes have enough accommodation (focusing ability) to focus on everything. You may only need glasses for reading but they are not what most people think of reading glasses. If you only need your glasses for reading than there is no reason to wear them all the time. Other than possible temporary eye strain wearing or not wearing glasses will not make your vision better or worse (doctors used to believe wearing glasses could make your vision worse by making it easier to focus or make it better by allowing you to use the whole range of accommodation but this has been disproved). I didn’t need glasses until I was 30 and then only because I had a job that required me to stare at a CRT 8+ hours/day. I didn’t need my glasses all the time but even though I didn’t need them I liked seeing better all the time so I wore mine full time. Anyway, most people can find glasses frames that compliment their face. I have a rather oblong face so on me glasses add width. From your picture it looks like you have a diamond shaped face (could be heart though). I’d try you in a retro looking cat eye frame to see if you can rock a Lisa Loab look.

Answer #10

If you need them, they are good. If you don’t need them, they are bad. There are pretty fashionable ones.

If you do not want to wear your glasses, then try contacts. For most less severe vision faults, you can buy inexpensive 1-month-contacts. But let your optrician tell you which ones to buy. If you are comfortable with that, you may want to decide to get permanent contacts.

Answer #11

Ofcourse they are good. Well people at our age should not get farsightedness so there is something wrong with your eye. So leave the topic of pro and cons and wear them straightaway. And you will have to wear them only while reading so there should be no problem. Btw may i know whats the power of lens reffered to you

Answer #12

well if u can see well and u use thn bad but if u need thn its cool but dont play with thn im a lil blind for putting thn on wen i dont need it

Answer #13

I already chose mine out:) the doctor said they should be ready in about a week. so i’m kind of excited to wear them to school! :D It was nice because The girl at the front counter (eye doctor’s assistent) helped me pick them out and my friend came too haha. I got the same thing, just reading glasses, he gave me the choice to have ones i wear all the time, but i figured i stick with just reading ones for now. :D Thanks for responding:)

Answer #14

Thanks:D If the glasses annoy me, i’ll ask the eye doctor about contacts:)

Answer #15

i’m not sure, but i bet i can ask when i go to pick them up. or shouldn’t it say it somewhere on them or the box when i get them? And i think i get it from my dad since he’s had to wear glasses since he was around 8ish for the same reason i’m getting glasses for.

Answer #16

Haha thanks, I picked some purplish color ones our that are retroish. They have a slight rectangle shape to them, but are still oval/circle. sorry it’s hard to explain, haha, and i got a cool design on the side:) He said i would just use them for when i’m doing class work, reading, (focusing on stuff up close) ect.

Answer #17

Must be mentioned on the prescription your doctor gave you after checking your eyes

Answer #18

There is such thing as reading glasses for young people. They have hyperopia, not presbyopia!

Answer #19

Not exactly. Reading glasses are prescribed to correct vision for near work only. Glasses for a young person with hyperopia are prescribed to work at all distances. They may only be necessary when reading but they are not limited to be for only close work.
