Function of the Mushroom Cap

Fukcntion of the Mushroom Cap

Answer #1

The button mushroom is a basidiomycete fungus. This means that it has gills which contain basidiospores for reproduction. These gills are housed in the cap. The reason you don’t see this in the button mushroom is that it has not separated from the veil so they are still covered, but the cap will open up to expose the gills as the fruiting body matures.
