Am I losing hair because it's damaged?

If hair is really “fried,” does it cause it to fall out? Because I’ve had a lot of hair loss, over the years, but there is nothing physically wrong with me. My hair is, however, extremely fried. I’ve recently started doing hot oil treatments and I think it’s working, but could my hair loss possibly be because my hair is so damaged???

Thanks to those who have replied so far! I’m still open to other opinions/responses, but I wanted to answer some questions that were brought up.

  1. I know it’s normal to lose SOME hair every day, but every time I washed it, A LOT would come out. Like, I would run my hand down my hair, and a bunch of it would come out right in my hand. It seems to be getting less and less now, maybe because it’s so thin! lol jk.

  2. I use a deep conditioner after I wash my hair, so obviously I leave that in for a few minutes. I just started using cholesterol hot oil treatments and they seem to be really helping.

  3. What came out in the shower LOOKED like full strands (root to tip) but it’s hard to tell when your hair is wet, you know? I have never noticed it on my clothes. It’s definitely not as thick as it was when I was younger. When I was younger I had gorgeous hair that was really thick.

To the person that mentioned about scalp treatments (sarahm2007): Are there any you know of or can recommend?

Are you noticing hair loss due to hair coming out in the shower, your brush, or getting on your clothes? Or are you noticing that your hair isn’t as thick as it used to be? Also, if you are noticing hair in the shower, on your clothes, etc, are you losing it root to tip?

Hair tends to break off when damaged/fried, so you wouldn’t see the hair follicle on one of the ends. If you are losing hair root to tip, the problem may be one of nutrition and scalp treatment.

I know someone said this earlier, but try leaving your conditioner in for at least 2 minutes every time you shampoo. One product I LOVE is by Suave and it’s a leave-in strength treatment (It’s in a blue pump bottle). I put it on wet hair and dry hair (tips only). That really helps with split ends. I know there are a ton of scalp treatments coming out and those would be helpful. Eating well will also help your hair to start out healthy. If breakage is the main problem, make sure you are conditioning, protecting from heat and using a brush of good quality.

Mmkay. Because I’m hoping that my new deep conditioning method will help regrow it. I never straighten it, but when I was younger, my mom made me blow dry it almost EVERY time I washed it, and I think over the years it just fried it, lol.

Answer #4

Yeah, definitely. Do you straighten it every day? Any kind of intense heat like that will damage your hair. If you can, use products that protect your hair against heat before straightening or blow-drying.

Well its very common for girls to lose alot of hair in a day… If other girls started paying attention they would be thinking the same thing… well alot of girls have fried hair,But a good thing to do is when your taking a shower and after shampooing apply alot of conditioner to your hair and leave it in while you tend to something else like shave or something.after you rinse pull at the ends of your hair for and loose ones. Try NOT to dye your hair or whatever you are doing to your hair as much because it can only take so much in a period of time. Hope you I helped…

Answer #6

Hmm.. how often do you get it cut? The more you get it cut, the healthier it will be. Sucks for me because my hair grows SO slowly.. but then again I air-dry 90% of the time, so it isn’t subjected to heat very often. I don’t think you can fry your hair and have the new hair growing out also be fried.. something has to be done to it. It is also common to lose more hair the older you get. I still have obnoxiously thick hair but I have noticed that it is calming down the older I get. And everyone loses hair daily while you brush it.

Answer #7

It doesn’t mean that you’re hair gets damage then you can get falling hair. It seems we had the same problem. In my case, my hair got damaged when i first started Relaxed my hair somewhere in Salon where isn’t so expensive. My hair got really damaged and became very dry. Maybe in your case, you have inherited it from your family history or get Stress because there can be a many reasons that can cause hair loss due to genetics, stress, bad diet lack of vitamins. I would suggest you to use Reloxe because they are the best cure for hair fall, baldness, hair thinning.

Answer #8

The effects of hair loss can be devastating to hair loss sufferers. Treatments for hair loss that can help to reverse hair follicle damage do exist. The effectiveness of treatment depends on the cause of your hair loss and the depth of the damage. Try to use Reloxe they are good treatment for hair loss.
