Do you think getting a flu vaccination every year works or not?

Answer #1

the influenza virus mutates every 360 days (more or less). So the vaccine you took will most probably work for five days a year.

Answer #2

The CDC reports that a flu shot reduces your chances of getting the flu by 70-90%. It won’t work as well for very young children or the elderly, because their immune systems don’t respond as well to the vaccine.

The makers of the vaccine’s must decide what will be the dominant flu strain well before the next flu season, in order to manufacture enough serum to go around. Most of the time their projections are correct. When they’re not, we all get sick.

So, yes. Get the flu shot. You will still get other virus that might be going around, but chances are you won’t get the “big one”.

Answer #3

Thanx for the answer… I got myself vaccinated yesterday and have for… well, as long as I can remember. But I stil get sick every year… My mom on the other hand almost never gets sick and she believes its because she has been vaccinated so many time during her life. Hopefulluy that’s true, cause I hate getting sick. ;-)

Answer #4

I’ll keep my fingers crossed for a non-sicko year for you! :)

Answer #5

They make a “guess” as to which strain will be the most common for the upcoming season. For the last few years, they’ve been wrong. So you’re just shooting yourself full of toxic adjuvants and chemicals, in my opinion. I’ve never had a flu shot, and I’ve never had the flu. My immune system works the way it’s supposed to.

Answer #6

Yes, but it works best for people with underlying conditions such as asthma or the very young, elderly and pregnant women because they have weaker immune systems. If you are hardly ever sick it isn’t really necessary to get one (not that it will do any harm). I know of a lady who used to work with me who got one every year for 3 years straight and never again got bronchitis in the winter. I get flu 4-6 weeks and last year because I got the flu injection it was less severe than other years (I have asthma so that is why I get more)

Answer #7

Before I had the flu shot I had the flu and bronchitis every year between 4 and 6 weeks. You’re very lucky.
