my fish are dying?

I got this tank about 2 months ago from my sister… she gave me a goldfish… I added, 2 black moors and 2 calico colored fish.. I lost one fish for an unknown reason… Then the goldfish died (I read I was feeding them too much so I started a feeding schedule one pinch every other day) and the remaining fish were doing fine… But then I decided to clean my tank out… I wash all the rocks, washed their toys, cleaned the filter.. And while I was doing this I had my 3 fish in a small fish bowl… I added the water and the chemical for deleting the chlorine, and I acclimated them… I came back 2 hours later and the two black moors where dead…. The remaining calico is kinda just at the bottom of the tank still swimming but not too much… What should I do? And what did I do wrong?? (Ps I didn’t use any soap while cleaning any of the fish tank oor toys…)

You can’t change the water 100% because they will die, I’ve done a complete water change and my fish died within the week. You should just siphon out some of the poop at the bottom, don’t change all of the water.

Answer #2

I think it’s what Iffy is saying too. You’re always supposed to keep some of the original water in the tank, never completely replace the water. It shocks the fish when the water is completely new. I’ve read the most water you should replace is 50% of the tank and that is if your fish are sick and/or you don’t change the water often.

How big is the tank ? Goldfish produce a LOT of ammonia and you should really only keep one to 20 gallons, more than that is recommended but 20g has worked for me. What are the calico colored fish ? Goldfish shouldn’t be kept with other fish that aren’t goldfish because most other fish require a heater and goldfish are cold water fish. Did you wash any of the stuff with soap/bleach/anything that isn’t water ? Just wash fish decor and things with water, never use cleaning products. Boiling the item works too. Did you use enough of the dechlorinator ? Also, you changed the water 100%, am I correct ? You’re only supposed to do 20-70% because doing all of the water gets rid of all of the established bacteria and then you have to let your tank cycle for another 2 weeks. Don’t get anymore fish, please do some research about tank cycling, pH/ammonia/nitrate levels.

Well the tank was like cloudy and nasty… It had stuff floating in it,… Even though I “net” it out everyday or every other day… And some people need to learn to read, I stated that I DIDN’T USE ANY SOAP WHILE CLEANING MY TANK… Just water and a paper towel…

Don’t have to be sassy, we’re just trying to help.

Answer #8

Well, I don’t see how you’re trying to help. By insulting what I know? Yeah that’s really polite of you… I know about filtration, cycling, and pH levels, and the way that I see it is if you can’t read… Don’t try to answer my question.. And you’re all being rude to me, and you can’t be rude to me then just expect nothing.. So thanks for your help.. But NO THANKS.. I’d rather listen to my mom, who is a lot more logically than any of you anyway..

Answer #9

Whaaaat, all we did was tell you that you weren’t supposed to do a 100% water change. When did we insult you? When were we being rude? You’re the one with the insults, telling us we can’t read (although it’s pretty obvious that we are literate).

Answer #10

If you were referring to me, I didn’t read your whole passage because

Answer #11

I already knew what was wrong. I know you don’t know about levels, if you did you wouldn’t have done a full water change. Either take the advise, or don’t.

Answer #12

advice* wow I can’t do anything today.

Answer #13

Haha

Answer #14

If you knew all that stuff you claim to know, your fish wouldn’t have died. Derp.
