Fish compatability mollies and female swordfish
Hi, I´ve had a few problems with fish compatability, I had a male gourami that kept attacking his partner, so I took him to a pet shop and changed him for a Molly, that is now being attacked by the two female swordfish that I have, why would they be doing that? Are they aggresive towards mollies normally? They havent been aggresive towards any other fish, I have currently in the tank, an angel fish, a female gourami, a male and female betta, one geenish fish with red fins (I don´t know the name of this fish), a pleco, pink fish thats similiar to the green one, a male swordfish and the two females, one neon tetra, I think thats about it!! please help thankyou very much to anyone who answers my question, its much appreciated
I have two blue gouramis, one male and one female. Two males in the same tank can be pretty aggressive, but my pair appears to fight sometimes too, but I honestly think that’s just how they act. They like to bounce off each other and go face to face rubbing their little barb fins together. I also have one pink gourami in with the two blue gouramis and they get along fine. Mollies are generally compatible with all fish except for the really aggressive species like chichlids and oscars and most species of freshwater aquarium swordfish are pretty aggressive also. I’m not sure why the swordfish would be only aggressive towards the mollie unless it’s something to do with it’s fin shape. Some fish, while not aggressive, can nip on the fins of certain fish because their movement and shape trigger their food response. If all the fish in your tank are getting along except the mollie, take it back and see if you can exchange it again for another fish in a species you already have. Good luck!
The thing is you see they weren´t just fighting the male gourami had actually eaten her whole tail, and she had like “cuts” on her, she was also always hidden and nervous, so I decided to remove te aggressive fish in this case the male, when I introduced the mollie the two female swordfish were aggressive in particula the smaller female of the pair, but the next day although the smaller one still chases the mollie around a bit and pecks at her its not half as bad as it was, and the other one just looks at the molli like it cant work out what it is…strange really, but theyre much better now :) thank you I´m pleased the tank has now more or less “worked out” lol
