Ferret

Ok, My ferrets are impossable to litter box train!!! One is 7 months the other is 10 months. Ok, before the litter box they both pooped and peed in one spot, so I put the littler box there. They just moved their pooping spot!!! So for about 3 weeks I would scoop their poop up and put it in the box, and when I caught them about to go poop/pee I would stick them in the litter box, and then give them a treat. But they still wouldn’t poop in the litter box on their own! So I moved the box to their new poopy spot, and what do they do, they move their pooping corners again!!! Now one poops in one corner and the other poops in another!!! I am hopeless what do I do???

Answer #1

I have the same bedding in the litter box as I do in the rest of the bottom of the cage (I use aspen supreme pellets bird and small animal bedding/litter) and is that a problem. its just when I do a different litter in the littler box all they want to to is play in the box and get all the litter out of the litter box and into the rest of the cage! I also use a corner litter pan, is that a problem???

Answer #2

Just keep trying and be patient they are still very young, everytime after they get done eatting and you see they are about to poop place them in the litter box, just like you would litter box train a kittenand keep putting the poop in the litter box and making sure they see it. Also try putting a little bit of litter in the corners where they poop so they see the litter and hopefully poop on it, then gradually take away the litter till they see that the only litter around is in the litter box and will use it, just be patient and persistant.

Thanks guys!!! I Bought the larger rectangle box about a mont ago, and they have been using it!!!

Answer #4

Mine does the same. She is almost six months old. I think it just takes time. You have to constantly reinforce the litter and do not use the corner litter boxes. Those seem to appear as a toy to them. Mine always dumps her litter box and then proceeds to play with it. I got a regular rectangle one and she doesn’t dump it. I keep it in the bathroom and she ignores it lol. I used to put it where she went and she would just go in a different corner. Good luck…

the corner pan is a BIG problem I had them for my ferrets and they would move them or poop somewhere else then I bought rectangle ones with a lot more room and they liked them much better and have only had one or two accidents since
