Felons And The Military

Should felons be permitted to enlist into the military? If not, what is your reasoning behind your answer? If so, what is your reasoning behind your answer?

Answer #1

Depending on the crime committed, yes. Violent offenders including rapists, no. Drug convictions, yes.

Answer #2

I guess it’s easy to say Yes when you don’t have to serve with them. I would say leave it up to those proud young military men and women who are already serving. They are the ones who will have to live with the decision.

Answer #3

felons are allowed to enlist in the military- depending on their crime of course.

some people get the choice- prison or the army.

rapists and violent uncontrollable offenders do not get that choice, and rightfully so.

Answer #4

Yes.

Unlike police officers, who are restricted to uphold the law, soldiers are fighting for their country - every person should have the right to do that if they so choose.

Answer #5

I don’t see why not.

Answer #6

I would say no. This is not so much an issue of the rights of felons as it is the safety of the people in the armed forces. I could not see myself trusting another man or woman with my life knowing that they have turned their back on the rules of society, the society that, in the armed forces your are willing to die to protect.

Answer #7

My application for rejoining, was very lengthy, and there were very extensive background checks. I will say this; if cannot carry a gun on the outside, you cannot in the Army either, which makes you all but useless in the armed services.

Answer #8

Absolutely with a few exceptions…murder, sex crimes. Actually if you think about it, the military trains people to do legally what the rest of us call “illegal”. If they want to serve our great country and are willing to learn discipline with their natural skills, then they would be great soldiers.

Answer #9

BEING AN EX MARINE,I WOULD HAVE TO SAY YES TO ALL FELONS AS WELL AS LOW RATED CRIMES,FOR THE EXCEPTION OF THOSE WHO WERE ARRESTED FOR BEING AGAINST OUR COUNTRY.I CAN TRUST A MAN WHO CAN KILL FASTER,THAN I CAN A MAN WHO NEVER KILLED IN THERE LIFE.MOST OF US HAD MADE MISTAKES,AND EVERY SINGLE PERSON ALIVE IS’NT AS PERFECT AS THEY WISH,THIS IS A KNOW FACT.OTHER MARINES FEEL THE SAME AS WELL.I KNOW IF I WAS A CONVICITED FELON,I SURE WOULD NOT ACT A FOOL KNOWING MY LIFE AS WELL AS MY LOVE ONES MIGHT DIE IF I CANT DO NOTHING FOR MY COUNTRY.SO ASK YOURSELVES…DO I WANT SOMEONE WHO CAN KILL ON THE FRONT LINES?OR DO I WANT A CRY BABY HUGGING HIS RIFLE FOR DEAR LIFE?NOT EVERY PERSON IS MADE FOR KILLING,AND I CAN RESPECT THAT.SO I RATHER LET THEM STAY HOME AND WAIT INTILL THEY REALLY KNOW,THAT THEY GOT TO KILL FOR THERE FREEDOM.

Answer #10

As others have said, it depends on the crime. DUI’s, drug convictions, soliciting prostitutes and other victimless crimes, sure, why not?
