Anxiety and military question.

I know that they say you have to be off all meds dealing with anxiety and depression for 1 year before you can join the military, but I also read that if you have a history of mental illness then you can’t join.

So, what I get from this is that if you’ve EVER had anxiety or depresion and its on your health records then you can’t join.

Is this right?

Answer #1

Write a letter to congress asking for a review. Some cases they will wave.

Answer #2

they do tend to screen for this stuff… odds are if it is on your record, they probably wont let you join… there’s probably not an official policy on it though… I think they check on an individual basis, how long it lasted, how long ago it was etc etc…

Answer #3

If you want to join, and are worried about this sort of thing, go talk to a recruiter. They’ll tell you everything you need to know. My bet is they’ll find a way, even if it requires some effort on your part to prove you’re ok.
