What to do when I feel like I am suffocating when I am actually not?

I have this feeliing like I can breath like I am going to suffocate, but I know I’m not. I keep taking big breaths every once in awhile so I can breath but I have this feeling in my throat like someone is putting their hands around my neck and is gentle choking me.

Maybe you need to visit the doctor…that could be serious..or maybe you are claustrophobic…thats where like if your with a group of people or tight spaces you feel like you cant breathe!

It sounds like a panic attack. If this keeps happening i would suggest seeing a doctor about possibly having anxiety.

Do you have asthma? You could have swollen adnoids they may be sticking together. I had the same problem and had to get mine cut out :(

You need to see a doctor to check if it is a physical problem (allergies, asthma, etc) or if it is triggered by an emotional problem (panic attacks).

it seems like you are not getting enough air from your lungs when you breathe. You need to contact a doctor, you may have asthma and may need a inhaler to help you breathe better.

It’s gone away now, and I think it was because I was thinking to hard and holding my breath

It could be asthma or a panic attack. I have anxiety and asthma, and it can be really scary. A doctor can perscribe you an inhaler or sedatives that help. What also really helps me is to drink a glass of water or milk. Milk contains tryptophan, which is a mild sedative that can help calm you down. Also, if it’s caused by asthma or allergies, over-the-counter anthisamines can help, like claritin and benadryl. Benadryl doesn’t work for me, but it is a well-known sedative, so it could help you.
