How do you feel when you cook and no one in the house wants to eat it?

Not because it is not delicious, it is because it is not one of their fav….

Answer #1

screw them, more for me :D

Answer #2

Well it kinda sucks for them because they are not eating. Its food, if its good, they should not have a problem with it.

Answer #3

There is nothing you can really do. Tell them that if they do not eat it the food will be going to waste and that you are not making any more food because you put time and effort into this. If they do not want to eat it then fair enough, they will have to cook for themselves today or go hungry.

Maybe come up with some kind of household rota where everyone gets their favourite meal once a week (or gets to pick the meal once a week, on a certain day, and the other days whoever is cooking (I am assuming you mainly do this job?) can make what they choose to as long as everyone likes it. You couldprepare two meals at the same time if someone does not like the main dish you are cooking. If that is not the case though and they are just being petty as it is not their favourite, then I would ask them next time before cooking and check they will be eating, as if not you can make less so it will not go to waste.

Could you save what you made today if it can be frozen and maybe invite some friends around tomorrow or soon, so you can warm it up and serve it to them as they will be grateful you actually took the time to serve them lovely food?

Answer #4

shall I call delivery service?

Answer #5

Well we have this happen all the time one boy hates fish, the other anything spice, so it feels like you are cooking to order sometime. Now when this happens, we have them fix there own meal, and we do not have the ready made meals in our house, you have to prepare everything, it is healthier this way.

Answer #6

that would be called pampering :)

Answer #7

Thank you indeed. If I ask them all they want to have is fried chicken, no vegetables nor others, so I tried to provide them varied food. I felt annoyed to day :( So I just put the foods in 4 plates and send them all out to neighbor. sad to see their hungry faces by mid day though LOL

Answer #8

four kids, hubby and one maid…. and me… 7 different tongue to satisfy…LOL I believe I shall start thinking of moving my table and laptop to the kitchen and ready to take any order…LOL

Answer #9

What is pampering, X5?

Answer #10

everyone in my family says “you can eat the food I/we made or you can go to bed hungry”

Answer #11

is it same as spoiling?

Answer #12

it usually means minding & taking really good care of someone special to you

Answer #13

It is a pain, but the only thing to do is break them out of the habit if you can as it is not healthy to just eat one thing, espcially with no fruit or vitamins as well. Could you get the children involved in cooking with you and make it fun, or else have a reward system so if they eat at least half of what is one their plate, they get a sticker (or just write it down in a book that they ate it), then when they get so many stickers (around 10 will probably work best, so it is not too many, but they are treated regulalry enough for the method to work) then they can have a reward. Maybe going to the cinema or getting takeout food/ going for ice cream? They only need to be little rewards, but they are still incentives :)

Could you stuff the chicken before you fry it for them when they have that? Maybe use or make a vegetable based stuffing, so at least they have some nutrients if not much. If you fry it in batter then you could just include some very thinly sliced veg and herbs in the batter. Perhaps a small bowl of ice cream, with some chopped fruit in, would be a good thing to end meals with, so they get the goodness from it and a small treat for having eaten.

Answer #14

Pampering does basically mean spoiling, yes :) it means they get to badically live in luxury as you do everything for them.

Answer #15

Thank you, Jetc. Never thought of it before. My kids will have their Eating Record Book. :)
