I don’t think there’s a specific word for it, but I’m thinking it would fall under the category “Hypochondria” (fear of illness) or “Thanatophobia” (fear of death)

Answer #2

Just an fyi - necrophobia is also a fear of death.

Colleen’s answer is right. You know, I’m 46, in good health, work out, exercsise and still have moderatley high cholesterol. I stopped taking the medicine for it a couple weeks ago because the side effects have been just ridiculous. So now gotta, either change diet or just not worry about it and rock on.

Answer #7

Answer #8

Answer #9

Answer #10

New words are created all the time. I couldn’t find a term for a fear of arterial plaque so I decided to coin one. A portmanteau of atherosclerosis and phobia would be:

Atherosclerophobia

Wonder if it will catch on now.

Answer #11

High cholesterol is not a disease; it is a risk factor.

Looking at all your risk factors you and your doctor should decide what is appropriate. High cholesterol isn’t good to have but your situation is much more critical if you have other risk factors like obesity, high triglycerides, metabolic syndrome, diabetes, high blood pressure, or family history of heart disease. Your doctor will probably be far more aggressive treating your high cholesterol if you also have other risk factors.

FWIW, my doctor has me taking high dose niacin. At high doses niacin acts like a medication rather than a vitamin. Niacin therapy has a long proven history of preventing cardiovascular disease while there are still questions over statin efficacy. You should talk to your doctor before taking any med or supplement though.
