Why are some of my family members freaking out about me dating a 16, soon to be 17, year old guy?

They’re probably freaking out because you’re still super young. And they’re just trying to protect you from bad guys, especially older guys.

Just because they love you and don’t want you to get in any “trouble”. He is almost an adult and you are technically still a child. Use your head young lady and consider your whole life ahead of you and how certain things can change it before you’ve had the chance to grow and do your own changing. Be a young adult by using good judgement at all times.

But hes not a bad guy and he respects my wish for not wanting to have sex until Im sure Im ready :( I just want them to except him

Well after some time and if you’re still with the same guy when you’re older they’ll eventually accept him.

Just keep in mind that 16 yr old boys don’t have as much patience as they say they do. The hormones take over and it’s hard for them to control it. YOU have to be strong.

Ive been more responsible and mature than how a 14 yr old should be for all my life but I understand what youre saying thank you

Yup when I was 15 I dated an 18 year old guy and he said he would be patient, but it’s so much harder for boys to do so than it is for girls. He’d get so frustrated and angry with me because I’d put the breaks on. We fought all the time and we broke up because he couldn’t handle abstinence. Later on I found out that he had been cheating on me with a couple other girls… Boys can’t really handle it especially when they’re in the 17/18 year old range.

That’s right. And when they get to be my age in their mid-life crisis it starts all over again and gals our age are “over it”, a vicious circle.

it could be many different reason’s why they don’t want you to date a 17 yr old guy… it could be because they love you and don’t want you to get hurt or end up pregnant. or they just want you to be safe.. but just take care of yourself talk. to your parents and your boyfriend. your family and your boyfriend needs to get to know each other befor they assume things.. hope everything goes well (:

I have to agree because your family loves and cares about what happens to you. And because they’ve lived your ages and exposed to others at both your ages and in both sexes to know what is more common then the exception. Basically because Boys that age have as hard of a time handling their testosterone in sexuality…. as girls have in handling their hormonal changes in mood swings. It’s more about reactions to natural chemicals developing and realeasing in your body then it is about thinking and logic.
